Former State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak Hospitalized Amid Remand for Murder Case
Former State Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak, currently in remand over a murder case filed by Jatrabari Police Station, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) due to chest pain on Saturday, November 9. He was brought to DMCH around 9 PM by Jatrabari police and initially treated in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital’s cardiology department. At midnight, he was transferred to Ward 602 of the Medicine Department, confirmed DMCH Police Camp In-Charge Inspector Md. Faruk.
Eyewitnesses reported that Palak, escorted under police guard with his face covered by a cloth, walked through the emergency entrance with two officers assisting him on either side. According to Jatrabari Police Sub-Inspector Mojahidul Islam, Palak fell ill suddenly on the first day of his seven-day remand, necessitating immediate medical attention.
The former minister had previously drawn public attention after an alleged attempt to leave the country on August 5, following the fall of the Awami League government. Palak was detained at Shahjalal Airport and later arrested on August 14 in Nikunja. Following his arrest, he was shown in remand for multiple murder cases. His name was also among those criticized due to a historic internet blackout in August, which incited public backlash and calls for legislative reforms to prevent future internet shutdowns.
